My academic training is as a mental health professional. My undergraduate degree is from Cornell University in Psychology/Counseling; my Masters degree is from the New York University School of Education, Health, Nursing and Arts Professions; and I received my doctoral degree from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania.
Healthcare and education have been integral components of my academic and occupational life. Before becoming a medical writer, I had a successful and thriving private practice as a sexuality therapist. I have been an Adjunct Professor at numerous colleges (undergraduate and graduate level programs); I worked in the education department at a medical rehabilitation facility, and developed a state-funded counseling program for victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault.
I began my freelance career in medical writing developing certified CME articles and programs on women's health (contraception, menopause, urinary tract infections, osteoporosis). My success in these areas led to assignments on increasingly broader - and more gender neutral - topics, including psychiatry/neurology, dermatology, infectious diseases, and pain management, to name a few. I also expanded my professional repertoire to include non-certified educational activities, and to assist clinicians in the publication of their scientific research.
In addition to my clinical affiliations, I am a member of the American Medical Writers Association.
